Reddit’s not really real. It’s just a figment of tumblr’s imagination.

August 20, 2012

A typical night in the MoorQuatt household. We set the scene: Lisa is playing on her laptop, sharing their lovely three-seater couch with 2 dogs, which means she is crammed onto one solitary cushion, while the dogs perform yoga exercises, splayed out across the other two perfectly usable cushions. Matt is sitting in a computer chair approximately 2 inches from the TV, shooting people and shouting random expletives while wearing ridiculously expensive headphones (with cushions, and a mic).

Me: “What’s Reddit?”

Husband (playing his video game): “Oh I know what it is, it’s that stuff you use to make cheese.”

Me: “…”

Me: “No. Reddit. Not rennet.”

Husband: “Oh. Right. I know what that is.”

Me: “…”

Husband (still playing his video game): “Could you use it in a context?”

Me: “So you don’t actually know what it means.”

Husband (still playing his video game, getting visibly angry): “NO. I know what it means. I just don’t remember what it means.”

Me: “…so…”

Husband: “Just…google. Google it.”

Me (already Googling): “I’m already Googling it.”

[Quick scroll through the Book of Knowledge]

Me: “Ah! Wikipedia says Reddit:

is a social news website where the registered users submit content, in the form of either a link or a text “self” post. Other users then vote the submission “up” or “down”, which is used to rank the post and determine its position on the site’s pages and front page. Reddit is based in San Francisco, California, USA.”

Husband (listening to the Spanish-speaking 12 year olds on the Call of Duty server he plays on): “No. That’s not it. It’s a real thing. Not that.”

I love being married. Seven months and 13 days. But who’s counting? 🙂

P.S. Just to clarify, I kindof knew in general what Reddit probably was…but I like to be precise.

P. P.S. There’s totally a link to Reddit at the end of this article. I dare you to Reddit…it.
